What to Expect

I support clients from all backgrounds and at all stages in their healing journey. Some have just received a SIBO diagnosis, some have been struggling with ongoing gastrointestinal issues, and others may be navigating symptoms with no clear cause.

I often partner with other medical practitioners to address and resolve SIBO, food allergies and intolerances, and other digestive disorders. I am not a nutritionist — I am an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach. That means my work is both systematic and intuitive, combining an understanding of functional medicine, nutrition, and mindset in a safe, supportive environment. I help you uncover and resolve triggers, give your gut the support it needs to heal, and move out of treatment, back to living life on your terms again.

Stress, antibiotics, food poisoning, surgeries — SIBO and other gut health issues are usually triggered by multiple factors over time, and typically, healing takes time as systems reintegrate and rebalance. For the best possible results, I ask that you bring to the table a willingness to share and a desire to explore. This process can bring up feelings of vulnerability, while also offering unique opportunities for longterm growth. As your coach, I don't simply give you a list of boxes to check — I invite you into the journey of discovery and healing. We develop a sense of awareness, work on practical, achievable goals, and begin peeling back the layers to ensure your health foundation is solid. When our physical and mental wellbeing are in alignment, we shift from surviving to thriving. Frequently Asked Questions.

"Karen helped me achieve multiple small steps during our 3 months working together, which in turn, helped me make some very large steps in my everyday habits and general self-care. What seemed like huge hurdles several months ago now seem like habits formed that were easily achievable." -Allison, Bozeman, MT

"Karen really helped me to learn more about my body’s needs and understanding how to best take care of it. She was supportive, kind, thoughtful, and knowledgeable. Through working with her, I feel much more grounded in my work going forward with nutrition and have a better understanding of my relationship with my body and health. She is a great resource!" -Kelly, Bozeman, MT

Physical and mental health support

Physical and mental health support

"I started working with Karen in 2019 after my physical and mental health had declined to a point that it was impacting my daily life. I hadn't felt like myself for years and, to some degree, I had accepted that was how things were going to be moving forward. After getting to know me and learn about my experience, Karen thought that many of my challenges stemmed from a combination of gut dysbiosis, diet, and life stressors. We've been working together for over a year on these areas, and during that time I've seen steady improvement in my physical and mental wellness. I'm finally starting to feel like myself again, and Karen has been a huge part of the positive changes that I'm seeing.

She is extremely knowledgeable and really cares about the people she works with, and that makes her a powerful person to have on your team when you are trying to feel better. I'd recommend her to anyone who is looking for a nutritionist, coach, or advocate." -Logan, Bozeman, MT

Healing from major accident

Healing from major accident

Physical and mental health support

"I came to Karen not really knowing what to expect or how nutrition would help me to recover from my accident.  I was delighted to experience a plan of action that not only gave me something new to focus on during my healing process, but also gave me hope that I was recovering from the drugs I had to take as a result of my accident and surgery.  Before working with Karen I thought I was pretty good at nutrition, and I probably was, but with Karen's help we added all sorts of nuances to my eating habits that have been quite helpful.  Now as I move forward I will take with me new habits that are going to be helpful the rest of my life." -Edie P., Bozeman, MT

Navigating chronic illness

Healing from major accident

Navigating chronic illness

"The support I receive from Karen is invaluable. Let me back up and say that I've had serious health issues for more than a decade and have waded through the protocol of dozens of practitioners. Almost all have agendas and egos. I find none of this with Karen. I find, rather, a willingness to move with the patient. Doesn't mean she won't offer advice that is sometimes conflicting. But she errs on the side of listening and hearing and believing in the patient. This, in my opinion, is a fundamental piece of the healing process, and when coupled with her keen insight, intellect and the energy it takes to understand a patient, well, she is just a gem in a bucket of rocks. PS I feel supported by Karen 24-7. A lot of docs give you the 15 minutes and that's that. With Karen, I feel her with me." - Debra-Lynn H., Kent, Ohio

Exhaustion and bloat

Healing from major accident

Navigating chronic illness

"When I came to Karen I was truly at my lowest in regards to health and wellness. I had gone to many doctors over the years trying to find answers as to why I was feeling exhausted, sore,  bloated, depleted, etc. None gave me the time and energy to really look into what was going on and always offered some sort of surface pharmaceutical fix.  After meeting with Karen for the first time I knew that this was going to be different, as she truly was invested and cared about wanting me to have a better quality of life. We started with the 6 month program delving into the necessary areas.  The outcome has changed my life, and that is an understatement.  The importance of having someone who is as educated as Karen and all the while is just as invested in your success is invaluable. Changing my nutrition has alleviated many of my chronic issues but my success would not be near what it is without having Karen guide me and give me the tools to change.  I have more energy, have lost weight and have a clear understanding of the importance of the foods that go into my body and how important they are to feeling better. Food can actually help heal the body...who would have thought that!!!  I am endlessly grateful to Karen and I would suggest to anyone to make that first appointment asap.  She is a world class human both Professionally and Personally and we are so lucky to have her in our community." -Brianna, Bozeman, MT

FAQs

Karen Mitchell Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, NBC-HWC, SIBO Specialist

What will it be like to work with me?

We begin with a complimentary consultation in which we'll determine (together) if nutrition health coaching is the right fit for you. If you'd like to move forward with either a coaching package or individual sessions, we'll work together to find the answers to your gut-health questions, ensuring you gain the valuable information necessary to support your unique body and lifestyle. We'll look deeply into your mindset, awareness, nutrition, movement, and lifestyle. We'll talk about you, your life and health history, your diet, your successes, and your challenges. We'll uncover potential roadblocks and identify key stepping-stones to your optimal wellness.

We will laugh, maybe even cry a bit. You will have unwavering support and mentorship as you create the lifestyle you wish for yourself, and work towards fulfilling your goals. Each session will build on our previous meetings — it takes time to make and benefit from shifts.

It's a journey we'll be on together.

How will we identify our focus and support the path towards those goals?

Initially, you may not begin with clear goals. That is completely normal — everybody and every situation is different. We will begin with finding clarity about where you are now, and what your unique needs are, before looking at where you might want to be in the future.

When and if you are ready for goals, we identify smaller goals that help us in service toward larger achievements — SMART goals which are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and timely.

If something should arise that would benefit from more dedicated investigation, I am glad to refer you to a select few trusted practitioners specializing in specific areas.

Each session will leave you feeling inspired and motivated. We will talk about things beyond food, seeking to bring balance to essential elements of your life such as love and relationships as well as career and money. I will personally and carefully guide you to make simple, small changes that transform your life.

Success from healing an unhealthy gut and SIBO

"Being diagnosed with SIBO was a start to my wellness journey but the doctor I was working with at the time was helping me from a knowledge based standpoint only. Finding Karen was the missing piece to my health journey, she was able to help me from both a knowledge AND personal experience standpoint when it came to living with SIBO. Karen has a great way of explaining things that was easy to turn into an application for my health. I always walked out of our appointments with a clear next step for myself. If I ever had any questions between appointments she would gladly answer them to help clarify my process. Karen has helped me change my view/relationship with food - what once controlled me by how I felt, now I control by how I want to feel. I feel like I have a life long team mate with Karen and it is an encouragement and a comfort knowing I've got her in my corner!" - Becky Boone, Bozeman, MT
